A follow-up study* was conducted after the study amongst migrants on the Tokelau islands between 1967 and 1982 (the Tokelau Island Migrant Study), which demonstrated that there was a much lower level of susceptibility to allergies in Tokelau than there was among those who had move to New Zealand.
Children between the age of 0 and 14 who had moved from Tokelau to New Zealand suffered from asthma 2.5 times more than those who remained on Tokelau (25.3% versus 11% of children).
Asthma and atopy are much less common on Tokelau.
Atopy is a hereditary form of an allergic reaction, an oversensitivity as a result of the IgE antibodies being too active when tackling the causes (such as inhaling allergens). Tokelauan children between the ages of 5 and 9 who had moved to New Zealand suffered 6 times more from asthma than those who stayed on the island (30% vs. 6%). Meanwhile, in the 10-15 age category asthma was 2.5 times more common and atopy 3 times more common among children who had moved to New Zealand.
Asthma and allergies are a sign of a poorly functioning immune system. An immune system that is overtaxed cannot function properly. The major cause of asthma is not hereditary but junk food and the polluted environment, and so quitting junk food and trying not to pollute your environment will cure asthma and rid you of allergies. When you wash your skin too often its immune system will weaken. Antibiotics, consumed in medicine and indirectly, through meat and fish, also weaken the immune system of our guts. Baby feeding with a bottle instead of the breast, unhealthy food instead of natural, vegetarian and unprocessed food and other factors all result in a poorly functioning gut that overtaxes the immune system. Other things that chronically weaken our immune systems are chlorine in swimming pools and tap water, urbanisation, and pollution in your home and elsewhere. Asthma or allergic reactions to dust mites, dander, pollen, mould spores, animal proteins, medicines, food additives, smoke, paint, exhaust fumes, perfume, deodorant, cleaning products, inks, fog and other things are all not the cause of a weak immune system, but the consequence of an immune system that is either overtaxed or that needs healthy nutrition and more exercise.
Asthma can most certainly be cured, don’t let big pharma hoodwink you – take control of the reins. Chantal Voets, co-founder of Amanprana, is living proof that by improving your diet and lifestyle habits you can cure your asthma. Eat healthy and organic foods, get enough exercise and remove odorous chemicals from your life. Chantal was free of asthma within less than 12 months, while her daughter was free of allergies within 6 months and, 10 years later, she still is. Extra virgin coconut oil was greatly beneficial to both of them.
